On August 6th we will wrap up our summer program with language arts, activities and snacks related to the book “Vegetables, Vegetables” by Fay Robinson.

International Literacy Day

Planet EarthThe United Nations' (UN) International Literacy Day is recognized on September 8th each year to raise people's awareness of and concern for literacy issues throughout the world.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and its partners are leaders in promoting the significance of literacy for healthy societies. UNESCO states that "literacy is a fundamental human right and the foundation for lifelong learning. It is fully essential to social and human development in its ability to transform lives. For individuals, families, and societies alike, it is an instrument of empowerment to improve one's health, one's income, and one's relationship with the world."

International Literacy Day is a way to call attention to the principles of literacy:

LVA supports International Literacy Day. We hope you will take a moment to thank someone who has helped you as you learned to read.
