Thanks to all the players, volunteers, and sponsors who helped make the 5th annual Fall Scrabble Team Tournament such a fun and successful event! LVA could not do it without you!

LVA Board Member Henry Lam Awarded Grant

Through Molina Community Champions Program LVA's own Hoang "Henry" Lam was honored this September by Molina Medicaid Solutions' Community Champions program, which celebrates the volunteerism, public advocacy, and leadership of outstanding community members.

Henry received a $1000 grant from Molina, so that he could, in the spirit of the Community Champions program, give that grant to a community organization of his choice. Henry chose to award the grant to Literacy Volunteers of Greater Augusta.

Meet Our Board Members: Keith Lind

Keith LindKeith Lind is from Augusta, where he graduated from Cony High School in 2006 as part of the last class to spend all four years in the old building. He then attended the University of Maine at Farmington as a Political Science major, studied the French language, and participated in a study abroad program.

In 2010 Keith graduated from UMF, and began his first year of AmeriCorps VISTA in New Hampshire, working on disaster preparedness and response. In 2011 Keith became a VISTA Leader, overseeing 25 AmeriCorps members spread from Orono, Maine to Washington DC.

Keith currently works for the U.S. Small Business Administration in Augusta, where he has worked since 2012. He is also involved in the steering committee for Cynergy, the Augusta area's young professional network, planning social and professional development events.

Upcoming Events for LVA

The Augusta Warming Center opens for the winter on December 15, 2014, and it will be open from 9am-4pm every day (until it closes on 3/30/2015) at 44 Front Street in Augusta. LVA will be there, offering tutoring assistance on Tuesdays from 1:30-3pm and on Thursdays from 9am-10am.

Gift Wrapping at Barnes and Noble: Give the special gift of a book, and LVA volunteers will wrap it with distinction. We will be at Barnes and Noble on December 13th and 19th, from 1-5pm.

LVA is partnering with the Augusta Literacy For ME Team to hold a Family Literacy event via Literacy for ME on 1/29/14, at the Buker Community Center, from 6:00pm- 7:30pm. This is open to all families with children enrolled in Augusta school district to come play with learning.
