Literacy Volunteers of Greater Augusta (LVA ) is holding a special event to raise awareness of the importance of literacy in our community through celebrating International Literacy Day. International Literacy Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1965 celebrating the 8th of September every year to emphasize the significant importance of literacy to individuals and communities. Our celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Maine State Museum/Library Atrium from 10am to 2pm and is free and open to all. Come meet Maine authors like Gerry Boyle and Paul Betit, learn about exciting happenings at Maine Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC), meet Maine storytellers and learn about Maine Humanities Council’s New Books, New Readers Program. Books and fun for all ages.
